"El Dia de los Muertos"

In Spanish class we recently studied El Dia de los Muertos, The day of the dead. We done numerous things to celebrate this. This included make skeletons out of paper then making one out of sugar. We also done two worksheet in which we had to translate. From this worksheet we learned that many families take part in this two day celebration. I learned a lot of interesting things. One of the most memorable was that the families had to provide food for their visitors. They built alters to welcome the spirits to the"living world". I realy liked the fact that this was a celebration for the lives left by the no longer living. I didnt like some of the food that i seen people provide for their visitors. I found it very interesting that so many people took part in this celebration. It was very interesting that there is actually a celebration in which lost loved ones are celebrated. El Dia de los Muertos is similar to the American tradition of Halloween. They are similar in the fact that they both celebrate the dead in a sense. They both allow for people to put up decorations and in some cases cook some very interesting foods. Both Halloween and El Dia de los Muertos allows children to let their creativity flow. The main difference between the American tradition of Halloween and the Lastin american tradition of El Dia de los Muertos is that on halloween children go out "trick or treating." El Dia de los Muertos is a very interesting tradition celebrated not only by Mexico but other countries as well. One of these known countries is Equador. El Dia de los Muertos is very interesting tradition that should remain strong for future generations.

Do you think this is a good policy?

In the United States people are required to go to school until they are sixteen. I personally believe that the age limit should be higher. However, if a person is consistently absent from school then they should not be required to go. In Nicaragua education is considered a valueable asset. The children know that without it they will end up living in poverty. In the United States an education is taken for granted. Most of the children in the United States end up dropping of school when they turn 16. Most children in Nicaragua are lucky to make it through the fifth grade. I believe the age limit should be higher in the U.S. I believe this because if it is raised then it will lessen the possibility of a person dropping out. in Nicaragua many children are not able to go to school. If more people in the U.S. and Nicaragua got an education there would be lower poverty rates. If the age limit was raised it would push kids to become more sucessful. Also, the children's parents must be in their life to encourage them to continue. Many Americans take education for granted. However, some are not able to attend at all due to problems such as financial or family related. Getting an education is definately something everyone needs.

Nicaragua/Education

In Spanish class we recently studied education in Nicaragua. Most students do not go to a secondary school. I felt that it was interesting to see that most children had to walk at least a mile to get to school. Some students have to bring their own chair to sit in at school. Before studying Nicaragua I took going to school for granted. I realize now that education should not be taken for granted.
